PHENYTOIN
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Phenytoin is used to control certain types of seizures, and to treat and prevent seizures that may begin during or after surgery to the brain or nervous system. Phenytoin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

DOSAGE FORM
- Oral suspension 125mg per 5ml.
- Intravenous injection 250mg per 5ml.
- Tablet 100mg standard and 50mg chewable for children.
INDICATIONS
Phenytoin is indicated to treat grand mal seizures, complex partial seizures, and to prevent and treat seizures during or following neurosurgery.

STORAGE & SHELF LIFE
Shelf life:
The shelf life of phenytoin depends on its form and storage conditions:
- Phenytoin sodium (Sandoz) injection or solution: The shelf life is 24 months, and it should be stored below 25°C and protected from light.
- Phenytoin sodium 50 mg/ml solution for injection: The shelf life is 24 months, and once diluted, it should be used immediately and infused within one hour.
- Phenytoin sodium 100mg tablets: The shelf life is 36 months, and it should not be stored above 30°C
Storage:
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
