PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Amikacin is an aminoglycoside used to treat infections caused by more resistant strains of Gram negative bacteria and some Gram positive bacteria. Amikacin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic that is derived from kanamycin A.

CHEMICAL NAME

D-Streptamine, O-3-amino-3-deoxy-a-b-glucopyranosyl)1>6)-O-[6-amino-6-deoxy-a-D-glucopyranosyl(1>4)]-N1-(4-amino-2-hydroxy-1-oxobutyl)-2-deoxy-(S)-,sulfate (1:2)(salt).

DOSAGE FORM

Injection: 50 mg per mL forintramuscular or intravenous

INDICATIONS

Itis indicated in the short-term treatment of serious bacterial infections due to susceptible strains of gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas species, Escherichia coli, species of indole-positive and indole-negative Proteus, Providencia species, Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia.

STORAGE & SHELF LIFE

  • Shelf life: 2 years (24 months) Unopened
  • Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) before dilution. Storage Solution is stable at room temperature (15–25 °C); diluted solution is stable at room temperature for at least 3 weeks or in the refrigerator for at least 60 days.
